Description
1798 ART of Francois Rabelais Illustrated Gargantua Pantagruel French Literature
“Seeing how sorrow eats you, defeats you.
Id rather write about laughing than crying,
For laughter makes men human, and courageous.”
― François Rabelais, Gargantua and Pantagruel

He is often considered one of the earliest fantasy writers and, because of his monumental work Gargantua and Pantagruel, he helped establish the modern European literary style.
