Thomas Penn (1702-1775) was the son of William Penn, original proprietor of the colonial Province of Pennsylvania. He, along with his two brothers, would inherit the position upon their father's death in 1718. As proprietors, the Penn brothers would exhibit a notably different governing style than that of William, who became known for his ideas of religious freedom and efforts to keep good relations with the surrounding indigenous tribes, mainly the Lenape.
