Description
Two beautifully detailed and finely cast Braziers, Athe?niennes or Stands, circa late 19th Century or Early 20th Century, One brazier was cast by Sabatino De Angelis and Son, from an original item in the National Museum of Naples and is labelled as shown. Listed among many bronze artifacts from Campanian cities buried by Vesuvius in The Field Museum of Natural History; catalogue of bronzes. This bronze is signed and dated 1903. The second brazier is unsigned and has slight differences in patina and size. This piece may be older than 1903. Andrew Carnegie had bronze casts made of Roman Antiquities and Etruscan items. These may be from that casting as The Carnegie staged several dispersals of these bronzes over the years. Each Brazier has a custom-made steel container that fit into the top rings to contain floral arrangements or plants. The steel inserts are 4 inches deep, 17 inches in diameter. The 19 1/4 inch diameter is at the widest point of the top tray. Height: 35.75 inches (90.81 cm) x Diameter: 19.25 inches (48.9 cm).
