Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE; Mexico, Rio Balsas, Mixtec, ca. 1250 CE. Two pottery vessels from Mexico. First is a lovely, decorated Mixtec bowl with painted scroll and wave patterns, the interior of the bowl with incised cross-hatchings mimicking a grater form also from this culture; the form exhibits a spooled base and reserved interior. Along with a medium-sized Colima vessel in the form of a mace head with indented base, flaring rim, and 8 extending "petals." Size (Colima vessel): 6" W x 4.5" H (15.2 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: Private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Artemis Gallery; ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998
