[CIVIL WAR]. Peace flask manufactured by N.P. Ames, Springfield, MA. 1837.
9 1/2 x 4 x 1 1/2 in. copper powder flask with triangular hangers (rich patina). The body is embossed with the US armory eagle with shield, 2 clasped hands surrounded by a sunburst and series of stars, and an assortment of arms with "US" shield at center. The top of flask is marked near spout "1837 / N.P. Ames / Springfield." Martial inspector marked "W.S." These peace flasks were made for the US Government from 1837-1858 by N.P. Ames.
