Brim to crown 6 in. black felt wool hat with 5 1/4 in. width brim bound with 2 1/4 in. width silver brocade edging and three silver bullion cords (tarnish), 2 3/4 in. hatband composed of 19 loops of silver bullion cord with acorns (tarnish), brown leather sweatband (detached), blue silk lining (heavily discolored, original color visible at edges)

[With:] 5 1/2 x 2 in. partly printed card labeling it "Mexican Hat" with a holographic note: "Worn by Henri Couron - 1860's Captan [sic] De Cazadores in Maximillian's Army." And noted "Presente dby William Couron." 

Maximilian I of Mexico (1832-1867), was an Austrian archduke who reigned as the only Emperor of the Second Mexican Empire from 10 April 1864 until his execution on 19 June 1867.
