[LATE INDIAN WARS]. Little Bighorn Battlefield relics, incl. shells and bullets, found by Bob and Donella Johnson in 1981.

"1. U.S. 45-70 Springfield shell & bullets with Col. Stephen Ben'et inside cup primer. (U.S.) -- 2. 45-70 shot in 50-70. (Indian) -- 3. 50-70 shell with bullet. (Indian) -- 4. 45-70 shell, Notice extractor torn head. -- 5. Henry shell, misfired, struck twice. -- 6. Henry shell, Long & short. (Indian). -- 7. Henry inside of 45-70 and 45-70 inside of 50-70 was this Indian playing while resting or waiting his chance to fire? -- 8. Spencer shell, with rare H head stamp. (probably Indian.) -- 9. 44-40 shells, (rare) top shell is unfired and has wood inside. Is said only 3 rifles were in battle. -- 10. 50-70 shells, all differently primed. (Indian and U.S.) -- 11. French button, probably Indian good medicine. -- 12. Rifle sight leaf, probably from Henry, or early Winchester. -- 13. Indian arrow, probably broken when prying stuck shell from 45-70. -- 14. 36 cal bullet, probably from Colt model 51 Navy. (U.S.) -- 15. 45 Colt Bullet. (U.S.)" -- Together, 25 excavated shells, bullets and other relics. Mounted in shadowbox frame with provenance letter signed by Bob Johnson and Donnie Sue Johnson, as well as manuscript note signed by the landowner, dated 20 September 1982 granting permission to metal detect. Condition typical for excavated items with expected oxidation, soil, and dents.
