Antique Late 1800's Crow Indian Rebellion Photo Cabinet Card, 8 Crow Prisoners, Crow Agency, Montana. This sepia cabinet card is in good condition for it's age,Has a letter wrighten on the back of it you can see what it says on the last photo with some light scratches & soiling, fading on the left side of the photo. There is a few pin holes in it not the mounting board, in the upper right with 2 small spots of surface loss to the photo. This is an incredible historic photograph from the Crow Indian Uprising. It shows 8 Crow Prisoners in shackles under guard at Crow Agency, Montana 1887. These captured followers of Sword Bearer were sent to Fort Snelling, Minnesota. The photograph is 9 1/2" x 7 1/4" on a beige mounting board that measures 8" x 10". This is a handsome image of the 8 Native American Crow Indians wearing beaded necklaces, long braids, earrings, plain & beaded leather moccasins, wrapped in blankets. The Crow Indian on the far left is wearing a buffalo hide coat. There are 6 Calvary soldiers with rifles surrounding the prisoners. With the photograph comes a copy of an article from Montana Magazine by Colin Calloway, telling the story of Sword Bearer and the Crow Outbreak of 1887. This incident was sandwiched in time & dwarfed in magnitude by the dramatic & bloody encounters at Little Big Horn & Wounded Knee. It was the last Indian war fought in the USA. A fascinating & interesting piece of early Native American history & a wonderful photograph for any Western image collector.
