Description
3rd century B.C.-2nd century A.D. A free-standing terracotta horse and female rider figure modelled in the round; the horse standing on three stub legs and with harness detailing; the rider possibly seated side-saddle with the body orientated to one side, detailing to the woman's long robes, earrings and dressed hair; accompanied by a custom-made display stand. 187 grams total, 12 cm high including stand (4 3/4 in.). Acquired 1979-1999. London collection of the late Mr S.M., thence by descent.
