Pre-Inca And Chimu Empire Man’s Ceremonial Tunic, Central Coast. Pre-Inca and Chimu empire man’s ceremonial shirt made from a two panel, blue dyed cotton body with attached sleeves bordered by alpaca tapestry bands depicting an early, almost Recuay period crested moon dog deity. Most likely made in the interregnum between the earlier Wari and later Inca empires in a modest coastal culture later swallowed by those same empires. Ex Jean Lions collection, Geneva, Switzerland before 1980. Legal US importation in 2005. Size: 1'3'' x 4'11.5'' (38 x 151 cm); Stretcher- 1'8'' x 5'2'' (51 x 157 cm).
