Description
Connecticut Financial Paper collection – 1 Pound note from 1790 to John Sessions, cancelled and signed by Ralph Pomeroy who was Comptroller of CT and a paymaster in the Continental Army; June 1, 1782 Promissory Note (9 pounds six shillings) paid to Benj Graves who served on the Continental Line in the Continental Army, six people signed the reverse and Connecticut State Treasure John Lawrence signed the note; June 1790 10 pounds paid note to Norman Butler, cancelled and signed on the back by Butler. Peter Colt, CT Treasurer from 1790-1794 signed the note; State of Connecticut Treasury Office note June 1782 to Samuel Hofsetter. He received this as 1/4th payment for service in the Army’s Continental Line. John Lawrence State Treasure signed it and on the reverse are nine more signatures as interest paid over the next ten years, and finally a note dated 1782 for the payment of 1 pound 4 shillings from the tax of two shillings six pence to the Hartford Committee of Supplies. Signing the note was again John Lawrence who was state treasurer and Judge Advocate General at the courts martial of Benedict Arnold – Finn Wadsworth who was son of Jeremiah Wadsworth the Commissary General of the Continental Army and Jedediah Huntington, a Major General under Israel Putnam, He fought at the Battle of Long Island and was a member of the Sons or Liberty and President Washington appointed him Collector of The Customs and an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati. A very useful group of documents for someone interested in Connecticut Revolutionary history
