This scale model for a canoe is richly decorated with the typical geometrical motifs and symbolic figures that are to be found in the traditional tattoos of the Marquesas Islands. The bow is adorned with a stylized face.
A similar model canoe belongs to the collection of the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris (inv.71.1930.51.19.1).
