Anonymous (likely Western European or American, 19th century). Reclining Female. Acrylic on canvas, ca. 19th century CE. Indecipherable inscription in lower left corner, possibly a signature and/or title. A seductive painting of a reclining female depicted nearly nude in the 19th Orientalist manner as though lounging in a harem. The figure lays on her side atop floor pillows and lavishly piled fabrics. Her chest is exposed, and her hair pulled back revealing an alluring visage as she gazes at the viewer. She rests her right hand on her hip, coyly toying with the strap of her ruffled lingerie, while her right arm lies to her side. Loose strokes of midnight blue and whites comprise her surroundings, appearing almost as water. A coiled object, perhaps a hookah, is placed in the foreground. Size: 21.8" L x 14" W (55.4 cm x 35.6 cm)
