South America, Peru & Brazil, Amazon Basin, Cashinahua people, ca. 20th century CE. A lovely ceremonial headdress made from colorful bird feathers secured to a woven rattan band. The plumes are white, yellow, and bicolored black and orange - undoubtably from jungle species such as white herons and macaws. The headdress is mounted in a modern wood and glass frame and is ready for displaying. Feather headdresses or "dani maiti" in the Cashinahuan language, which translates to "body feather headdress," were traditionally crafted only by men for their sons to use during initiation or ceremonial events. Size of feather headdress: 16" L x 15" W (40.6 cm x 38.1 cm); frame: 21" L x 17.25" W (53.3 cm x 43.8 cm)

Condition
Some fraying to feathers as expected with use. Additional braided and cotton cords added to woven headband terminals for securing to head. Mounted in modern wood and glass display frame. Overall great condition.
