The Urraco belongs to the still little-known 8-cylinder Lamborghini family. Launched in 1970 as the 'entry level' GT 2+2, it was the gateway to the Lamborghini world. Named in honour of the Urraco bull breed, known for their fighting character and small stature, this Lamborghini was the first in a series of 'small' Lamborghinis, i.e. all those models not equipped with the legendary V12. The Urraco was, together with the rival Ferrari Dino 208 GT4, one of the most famous transverse rear-engined 2+2s of the 1970s.
The P200 was born in 1974 to get around the penalising regulations imposed by the Italian government on cars with an engine capacity over 2 litres. Named with the internal code P117, it had the same 8-cylinder engine as its bigger sister P250 but with a bore reduced to 77.4 mm. Power was 182 hp, not a record-breaking figure, but enough to give the little Lambo sufficiently sporty acceleration. Considering the oil crisis of those years and the P200's modest performance, it was not a success: only 66 examples were built, all with left-hand drive.
This 1976 example is among those from mid-production. According to the owner, this Urraco P200 was sold new to its first owner, an enthusiast from Imperia, where it was registered in May 1976. In 1981 the car underwent a change of province and was registered with the current Torino plates. The car has been at a standstill for some time and is in need of a mechanical overhaul: we recommend a thorough inspection by a competent mechanic before starting it up. Rare and splendid in its Bertone bodywork, this P200 is an extremely rare example of a Lamborghini 2+2, certainly a connoisseur's piece!
