DESCRIPTION: Effingham Embree Federal tall case clock. Mahogany case with wood carved eagle and brass finials atop shaped bonnet top with stenciled floral decoration. The painted metal moon phase dial has subsidiary second hands and Roman numerals and is signed Effingham Embree, New York. Eight day brass time and strike movement. Rectilinear case with long door flanked by fluted quarter columns and string inlay continuing to a plinth base. Embree is a celebrated New York maker of clocks and watches who worked just after the Revolutionary War. His works are in the White House, Winterthur, Boscobel Museum and the Henry Ford Museum. PROVENANCE: From the collection os Dr. M. Donald Hayes; Ex. Edward LaFond, Jr. MEASUREMENTS: 97" high x 19" wide x 9" deep. CONDITION: Runs and strikes. Case refinished.
