Description
Willy Corsari, "Manden, der Kom Tilbage" translation of "De man die niet mocht terugkeren" (The man who could not return) Published by Det Schonbergske, Kobenhavn 1948. 5400 examples printed. Half Morocco with raised bands, gilt title on spine, on marbled boards. Color cover bound in book. Blue stain speckled edges. 1.1lb Wilhelmina Angela Schmidt was the daughter of Cornelis Nicolaas Schmidt, diamond worker, amateur singer and sculptor, and Elisabeth Christina Benit, pianist. Schmidt/Corsari studied at the Amsterdam Sceneschool & Kleinkunstacademie in Amsterdam, but it seems that her voice is not suitable for opera. She participates in cabaret there and performs with big names such as Jean-Louis Pisuisse and Louis Davids. She describes these experiences in her "Songs and Memories". Her writing talent was then discovered, only entangling her to continue as a popular writer who could manage to reach a wide audience. Her first publications appeared in magazines from 1916; her first book was published in 1927. She experienced her greatest popularity in the 1950s. She also translated works by others, such as Louis Bromfield and Albert Camus. Approx.
