Nancy Pawel (1928-2021, San Antonio, Texas) four glazed pottery castles with colored and gold accents, dated 1990, 1996, 1996 and 1997
Heights 10.25 in., 10.25, 12.25 and 19.75
Provenance: The Estate of Barbara "Babs" Baugh, San Antonio, Texas
Nancy Pawel started art classes at the McNay Art Institute where she became fascinated with glazes for stoneware and porcelain creations. In 1969, she started teaching ceramics at the University of the Incarnate Word (San Antonio, Texas). For 32 years Nancy's basement "Pot Shop" was a special place where she mentored students of all ages. Nancy is known for her collectible castles, ladies, celadon bowls as well as her public commissions which could be viewed at the San Antonio Botanical Center, Hilton Palacio del Rio, Saint Mary's Hall, Kelly Air Force Base, and the Natatorium at UIW. She won numerous awards including San Antonio Express News "Outstanding Woman in Art" and "Artist of the Year" by the San Antonio Art League, as well as the featured artist of the National Council of Jewish Women and recipient of the San Antonio Conservation Society Lynn Ford Craftsman Award. She was selected with other clay artists from around the world to participate in the First International Ceramic Artist Workshop in Ichon, South Korea and was a delegate to the World Craft Council in Kyoto, Japan.
