Description
Pair of Cloisonne Enamel Candlesticks
Width:14cm, Height:34.8cm,
Nishi Tetsutarou, representative of the Japanese Cultural Chamber of Commerce in Shenyang, collected Qi Baishi's seals through Zhou Tieheng, a valued disciple of Qi Baishi. At the end of 1927, he asked Qi Baishi to make three seals for him, namely "Lao Zhe", "Xing An" and "The Xi Family Collection'. Nishi also corresponded with Qi Baishi, who addressed him as 'Mr. Xi(which is Nishi in Japanese)' in his signature, which is quite interesting and modern. In 1945, Mr. Nishi returned to Japan. Mr. Nishi was very fond of Chinese art, and during his stay in China he collected many fine Chinese works of art, most of which were shipped back to Japan, where he put his own collection sticker on the packaging and stamped the collection seal engraved for him by Qi Baishi. After his death, many of Mr. Nishi's collections were sold and auctioned off by his descendants.
