This textural cubist serigraph is by important and noted Wisconsin artist Dean Jackson meeker. It is titlled Le Clochard de Paris" and referes to the romantic opera of the time outlining the French idea of nobility of the homeless. It was probably completed when Meeker was living in Paris around 1959 on a Guggenheim Fellowship. It is hand signed and numbered 11/25. It measures 21" tall X 31" across. Meeker was an influential and innovative printmaker. He was the first printmaker to overprint silkscreens with polymer intaglio, giving his works a 3 Dimensional quality. He was the co-inventor of the Meeker-McFee motorized etching press. He taught Silkscreening at University of Wisconsin Madison for 46 years. He was a 1959 recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. His Sculptures, paintings and prints are in over 100 important world collections to include New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery in Washington DC, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, just to name a few.
