Mid-Atlantic Federal Inlaid Mahogany Tambour Desk
early 19th century, mahogany veneer, white pine and poplar secondary, one part form, rectangular recessed secretary with applied edge molding above a vertically veneered frieze with light wood inlaid panels, central prospect door with veneered inlaid tombstone panel opening to reveal a shelved interior, flanked by two tambour doors opening to reveal a vertical document drawer flanked by an upper small drawer above three valanced pigeonholes to each side, above a hinged fold-out writing lid with loper support, three graduated cock beaded drawers, light wood line inlay throughout, scalloped skirt with stylized light and dark wood inlaid band, distinctive and graceful French bracket feet.

Original skirt and feet with later brace blocks to rear feet; some inlay missing at base; left and right side case panels with shrinkage separation; top with dark staining; some surface inconsistency throughout case; later baize writing surface; drawer runners and guides rebuilt; second drawer with cock beading loss to upper right corner.
