Description

RIAA Gold LP "white matte" award for The Doors Waiting For The Sun LP presented to The Doors. The album was released on July 1, 1968 in the U.S and was certified Gold by the RIAA on August 6, 1968 for one million dollars worth sold.

Waiting For The Sun became the band's only #1 album in the U.S. on the Billboard chart. It featured their second #1 single success "Hello, I Love You" along with classic tracks "The Unknown Soldier", "Love Street", the flamenco-inspired "Spanish Caravan" and a raucous cover of Willie Dixon's "Back Door Man". The album reached high chart spots in the U.K. and Canada as well. By 1987 it had been certified Platinum by the RIAA.

Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Gold LP award is a first presentation award presented to The Doors. It was made in 1968 given its certification date and the manufacturer's sticker is correct with the pre-1969 141 Fulton St., NY address. (After 1969 the company moved to 29 John St., NY address).

Despite being 54 years-old it is in Very Good condition. There are a few mars and scratches on the wood frame as is expected along some minor discoloration of the gold disc. While cut on three sides, the top is uncut indicating that it is the original backing paper.(Cuts have been taped to help prevent dust intrusion). It also has its New York Frame & Picture Co. manufacturer sticker.

Don't miss this very rare opportunity to acquire a coveted RIAA white matte award presented to The Doors themselves.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
