Author's first edition copy, c. 1721. Fischer von Erlach (1656-1723) was a notable Austrian Baroque architect, as well as a historian and sculptor. His book contains detailed engravings of real and imagined from the history of the world, as well as depictions of the far East and of Islamic Architecture. These were widely unknown in Europe during the time. Contains 73 plates.
No binding or covers. Tinting and some foxing throughout, but in appropriate condition for its age.
From the estate and lifelong collection of William Garrett Hodges (1946-2014). Hodges was a Virginia-based dealer of fine arts, with specialization in prints and rare books, having collected for decades. He supplied and consulted various groups on antiquities throughout his career, including the White House, the Vice President's residence, the FBI, and multiple film and television series.
