Description
**Originally Listed At $200**
South America, Brazil, early Cretaceous period, ca. 125 million years old. Amazing! A fossilized fish with a streamlined body that beautifully displays the individual scales and quartz formations! The species is difficult to discern, but may be in the genus Rhacolepis - prehistoric and now extinct species of ray-finned fish. This fish has developed a caramel brown hue from the fossilization process as well as smoky and semi-translucent crystals along the head and body. A small perforation near the midsection shows the crystals extend to the interior as well. This fish has been nearly fully excavated from the stone matrix, but retains an area of the matrix sediment across its tail and body. Size: 8" L x 1.25" W (20.3 cm x 3.2 cm)
Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
