A scarce printing of the fascinating 19th-century African explorational narrative, Stories of the Gorilla Country. Written by the French-born American explorer Paul Belloni Du Chaillu, this work presents his account of the experiences he had after being commissioned by the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia to go on two separate African expeditions, the first from 1855-1859, the second 1863-1865. Du Chaillus stories fascinated the public as he provided one of the first European records regarding Gorillas. Contents of this work describe various African peoples, tribes, cultures, customs, plants, wildlife, cuisine, survival stories, big game hunting, slave trade, life among cannibals, King Bango and his three hundred wives, witnessing an execution for practicing witchcraft, rituals, religious practices, and much more!
