Description
KPM hand-painted old master porcelain plaque after Rembrandt van Rijn's circa 1650 painting entitled "The Man with the Golden Helmet," depicting the head of a man with downcast eyes and a grey beard with his elaborate, feathered gold helmet and silver gorget illuminated - along with his pensive facial expression - by a strong light entering from the viewer's left, creating a striking contrast with the shadowy background. Titled and attributed to C. Schubert in pen and impressed with the scepter above KPM mark, letter H, and numbers 237 and 158, en verso. Housed in a heavy carved giltwood frame and protected with archival glass. Plaque: 9" H x 6" W. Frame: 18 1/4" H x 15 1/8" W. 19th C. Note: Rembrandt's original painting is in the collection of the Gemadegalerie, Berlin.
