Description
Originally offered at $800...
Ancient Near East, Islamic / Persian culture, ca. 10th to 12th century CE. This is a stunning molded glass bottle of a translucent green hue with a globular body, slender neck, and a flared rim. The glass is semi-translucent, a gorgeous hue of pale yellow-green, and rainbow iridescence is scattered throughout that has formed over the ages. The base has a shallow concavity with a pontil scar that indicates that while this jar was mold made it was also hand-blown. Rippling across the base and body are the stylized teardrop or peacock feather motifs. To create this mesmerizing pattern, molten glass on a blow pipe is inserted into a hinged mold known as a "full sized" mold made from bronze or another metal with the pattern engraved into the walls, the glass is inflated via the blowpipe, taking on the shape of the mold. Size: 3.75" Diameter x 5.5" H (9.5 cm x 14 cm)
