Vanderbilt Estate David Cox Agnews London Label WC, British Romantic watercolor landscape painting, A Shepherd and his Flock near a Ruined Abbey, 4.25 x 6 inches, 4 x 5.75 inches sight, 10.125 x 11.625 x 0.625 inches framed, no visible signature, photocopy of Agnews Old Bond St. Picadilly Circus London English label with title affixed to backing citing Provenance of Col. J. D. Hills, post War frame with hand colored mat. Provenance: Vanderbilt Whitney family landmark Old Westbury, Long Island, NY studio former residence of noted sculptor Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, founder of the Whitney Museum and great granddaughter of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt, removed by our staff this past November during real estate staging. Decorated with murals by prominent Gilded Age to Art Deco artist colleagues and the site of legendary soirees attended by a Whos Who of actors, painters and philanthropists, the property has been listed for sale, emptied of contents and staged for its real estate sale listing. Condition
Generally clean and attractive with no creases or tears redily visible, some right edge surface wear inside of mat, a few spots of foxing in sky, some very light discoloration upper left that may actually be cloud detail, overall moderate toning. Not examined out of frame, note label is a photocopy.
