This lock of hair was obtained from a Tulsa World Newspaper contest by a high school girl who was one of ten winners of the contest, which required the entrees to complete the sentence "I think the U.S. Army can make the best use of Elvis Presley by-" in 25 words or less. The girl's winning entry was "I think the Army can make the best use of Elvis Presley by letting him show us that love and duty to our country must come first above all. We will admire him for it." The lock of hair has been framed to museum quality with a notarized handwritten letter from the contest winner, a black and white photograph of the haircut, which according to the letter was a part of the contest winning and was an "unpublished picture of him getting his induction haircut," newspaper clippings regarding the contest, and a brass information plaque.
