3.75" Burlon Craig was the last true North Carolina utilitarian potter to wood fire wares in North Carolina. He began making pottery in the late 1940s and switched to the more folk traditional face jug sometime in the 1970s when the need for utilitarian stoneware as a way of life died out. Burlon was very active from 1980 to 2000 before he died. His kiln openings were a site to see everyone lined up ready for the tape to drop and then the crowd of 100 plus people running to their favorite piece on the lawn.
