An original World War II poster from Braunau am Inn, Austria (Hitler’s birthplace), 1p. folio (25 x 18 in.), Sept. 4, 1943, in German, titled ‘Announcement to ‘Disobedient’ males born between 1884 and 1893’. In part: '…From Sept. 15 to the 25th, 1943, police will arrest ‘disobedient’ male German nationals born between 1884 and 1893…Those born within these years must report immediately to the municipal office of their place of residence by no later than 25 Sept…Those required to report must submit two passport photos…You should also bring personal papers and other IDs showing any military service you may have completed in German or other military forces (former Austrian, Czech, Lithuanian, etc.) and [documents] about your affiliations with Nationalist Socialist organizations…Persons obliged to report who do not comply with their obligation to register…will be fined up to RM 150 or imprisoned...’. Signed in text at the conclusion by Dr. Beer. It is unclear whether this poster is conscripting German men for the Wehrmacht, or as a badly-needed wartime workforce. Four days after the publication of this poster, Italy would surrender unconditionally to the Nazis and, six weeks later, the Moscow Declarations were signed, declaring the German annexation of Austria null and void. Weakened, toned folds and light fading in areas, overall very good.
