Item Details

Description

Genuine miniature World War I award of Imperial Germany, the Pour Le Merite, also known as Blue Max, the highest award granted for military merit. This is a miniature boutonniere version,19 x 19.3 mm., depicting a blue enameled Maltese Cross featuring the Prussian royal cypher and the gilt text ‘Pour Le Merite’ (‘For Merit’), with gold plated eagles set between the arms of the cross. A loop connects the medal to a gilt boutonniere with original black and silver bow tie ribbon. The reverse of the boutonniere is maker marked ‘J. Godet &Sohn Berlin’. Minor enamel flaking and some soiling to the gilt boutonniere, else very good to fine.
