Description
Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast of Mexico, Veracruz (Vera Cruz), ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A sizable example of a pottery woman acting as a coast watcher. Her seated pose and slight forward lean keep her on alert for any incoming vessel - friend or foe - while her feathered headdress and bright red pigment are visible from far distances. The overall size is rare for this type of figure so do not watch this figure slip away! Size: 6.9" W x 13" H (17.5 cm x 33 cm)

Condition
Repair and restoration, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and nicks commensurate with age, with minor fading to original pigment, and light earthen deposits. Nice size for figure of this type!
