Susan B. Anthony Copy of An Account of Her Trial "on the Charge of Illegal Voting"
Susan B. Anthony presentation copy of "An Account of the Proceedings of the Trial of Susan B. Anthony, on the Charge of Illegal Voting, at the Presidential Election in Nov. 1872". Rochester: Daily Democrat and Chronicle Book Print, 1874. First edition. Octavo, 212pp. Original printed wrappers. The volume is a published transcript of the famous trial in which Anthony was convicted of illegal voting and fined $100. After her conviction, she told the court: "I shall never pay a dollar of your unjust penalty" and, true to her word, she did not. This is an exceedingly rare printing, with an unsigned copy last being sold at auction in 1999 for $1500. Housed in a custom box. Slight toning to the front and rear wrappers with soiling and dampstaining. A few pencil notations on the front wrapper. The interior pages are very clean.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
