Baby & Mother of Color Rare CDV
Carte de Visite, measuring 2.5" x 4", ca. 1870s, Newark, NJ. From notable Civil War-era studio E. P. Spahn's Gallery of Art who, in the 1880s, would photograph a young Thomas Edison during his time conducting research in Menlo Park, NJ. Expected wear, including minor foxing and uneven bumping along top edge. Near fine condition.
A beautiful image of a mother and baby, highlighted with blue hand-painted accents. The mother, likely of African American descent, wears a striking cameo brooch and is seen balancing the baby on her lap.Â
