The scarf was obtained from the collection of movie stage hand Bill Wilt, who was given the scarf from Chaplin. The lot includes a Letter of Authentication from his wife, Jennifer Wilt, indicating that her husband had worked for MGM, Warner Bros and 20th Century Fox during his career and was "befriended by many of the stars he worked for". The scarf also comes with a certificate of authenticity from RR Auctions and Letters of Authenticity from "Heaven and Earth" and "One of a Kind Collectibles", along with two copies of photos showing Chaplin wearing similar scarves in his later years.
