1880s studio portrait of the "Crooked Face Family" by D.F. Barry of Bismark, Dakota Territory. Crooked Face, a Chief of the Crow tribe, has otter fur wrapped braids and holds a tacked pipe tomahawk. His wife wears an elk tooth dress and holds their young son.
David Francis Barry (1854-1834) was a well-known photographer of the American West. His work is kept by various eminent institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
