Roman Pottery Sea Salvage Amphora Eastern Mediterranean, Ca. 1st to 3rd Century AD. Size 21 inches high, 11 inches diameter. ( 28 1/2 inches high overall with stand) Ample deep vessel on pointed base with thin cylindrical neck, thick rim and twinvertical loop handles at shoulder and neck. Great sea encrustations, excavated from a Roman ship wreck off the coast of Turkey. Size 21 inches H. 28-1/2 inches on iron tripod stand. Provenance L.W. Upper east Side New York, by descent from her father, who states; it was found off Bodrum. It was given to her father, US Navy Captain Richard S. Rodgers as a gift in the early sixties, when he was Naval Attaché in Ankara, Turkey.
