Description
1893 Alice in Wonderland + Through the Looking Glass Lewis Carroll John Tenniel
As one of the most recognized pieces of Victorian British fiction, Lewis Carrolls Alices Adventures in Wonderland has had a tremendous impact on popular culture and childrens literature, especially the fantasy genre. A landmark masterpiece, the fascinating fantasy tale of a young girl falling down a rabbit hole, has become one of the most iconic pieces of literature in the modern era.
Through the Looking Glass was published a few years after the success of Adventures in Wonderland. It famously included “…the greatest nonsense poem ever written in the English language,” entitled, “Jabberwocky” (Gardner). It was in this poem that Carroll created playfully obscure words that have become recognizable in English such as “galumphing” and “chortle.”
This edition features both Wonderland and Looking-Glass in the same volume. Beloved English artist Sir John Tenniel provides a total of 92 whimsical illustrations throughout both works.
