Description: Beautiful architectural illustration from the French-language compendium of Bonaventura van Overbeke with Roman buildings of antiquity. The large engraving work first appeared in Latin in 1708 and was republished in a French translation in 1709. The etchings were all published posthumously by the artist's cousin Michiel van Overbeke. They are characterised by a high level of detail in their reproduction. Staffage figures are often added to the architectural views to illustrate the proportions of the ancient monuments.

Condition

Good condition. Sheet overall slightly wavy. Pale stains on the margins and partly discoloured by liquid stains. Slightly browned along the edges. The image makes a very good and fresh impression. Tiny etching spot on the lower margin.
