Description

The Mohawk Valley Its Legends and Its History by Max Reid. Pub. 1901 by G. P. Putnam's Sons (first edition). This book deals with the period between 1609 and 1780. The Mohawk Valley, with its stirring scenes connected with the French and Indian Wars and War of the Revolution, had been somewhat neglected by historians and other writers until this book was published. Yet within the valley's borders have been enacted tragic events and heroic endeavors that helped materially in crowning with victory the efforts and sacrifices of the Revolution's patriots. It is one of the most beautiful sections of America east of the Mississippi. One of the chapters is on Joseph Brant, the famous Mohawk warrior. Illustrated profusely with drawings and photographs by J. Arthur Maney. Nominal rubbing to tips and spine ends. Two strips of mild discoloring on front cover. Gilt titling still bright. Gutter cracks near front and rear but covers feel strongly attached. Interior near fine. 455 pages. 7.25 x 9.75.
