AN AESTHETIC MOVEMENT EXOTIC WOODS INLAID MARQUETRY AND EBONIZED WOOD CENTER TABLE, PROBABLY POTTIER & STYMUS, NEW YORK, 1860s-1870s, the recessed floriform top with inset dark chestnut medallion centering an exquisite naturalistic marquetry inlay of two parent birds swooping in to feed their chicks in a nest upheld by a swirl of branches and leafy curling tendrils within circular bands of maple before tulipwood quatrefoil lattice on a burled black walnut ground, divided by reserves of chestnut, rosewood and mahogany geometric interlocking designs, a gilt bronze encadrement divides the circular table and is encircled by an interlocking geometric ribbon festoon, the outermost edges with ebonized decoration over a wide flat skirt with applied gilt incised scalloped apron, raised on dramatic serpentine and "S" scroll volute buttresses upheld by a neoclassical footed urn and a gently arched "X" form stretcher on disc feet with casters.
