Dallas, Alexander James. Reports of cases ruled and adjusted in the several courts of the United States and of Pennsylvania: held at the seat of the Federal Government. T. Bradford, Philadelphia, 1806, 1798-1807. 4 volumes. First volume is 2nd edition, the remaining volumes are all 1st editions. Rebound in modern brown leather, black leather spine labels. Volume I is made up of cases in Pennsylvania, which preceded the establishment of the Supreme Court. The subsequent volumes contain the Supreme Court cases, ending with the seat of government's move to Washington, and John Marshall assuming the chief justiceship. Alexander Dallas served as Secretary of Pennsylvania, district attorney under Jefferson, and Secretary of the Treasury under Madison. As the first reporter for Pennsylvania and United States Supreme Court reporter of decisions, he collected and reported its cases, as well as those of Pennsylvania's courts in this set.
