Springfield U.S. Model 1795 Type III Musket,
Springfield, Massachusetts, c. 1812.
44 5/8 in., .73 caliber round barrel marked at the breech 'P' eagle head and 'V'; flat lock plate with pointe tail marked '1812' and 'US' over a spread wing eagle and 'SPRINGFIELD' below the rounded pan, the inside of the plate stamped 'AW' and parts with a small '1'-like mark; walnut stock marked 'ZD' below the trigger guard; iron furniture of proper form, butt plate marked '1812' on the tang, trigger guard with blunt finials, the inside of the trigger guard bow marked 'BA' and the trigger plate marked 'PT'; with sling swivels and steel rammer with button head and plain end.

Condition
Metal polished and with light gray toning, old vice marks at the breech and filed sight line over the breech; lock has pitting in the pan area and functions properly; stock is refinished and has short cracks along the right side of the barrel channel between the upper and middle bands, the wood between the lock mortice and breech plug tang has been repaired. Breech is obstructed, barrel vent has a brass bushing and may be reconverted.
