Description
Ca. 200-300 AD. Bodhisattva Maitreya is standing on a rectangular plinth decorated with a stupa and two worshippers. In a relaxed pose, with left hand lower holding the bottle of elixir of immortality, wearing long flowing robes draped across his left shoulder, his face with serene expression with downcast eyes beneath gently arched brows; his hair tied over the ushnisha. The bodhisattva is adorned with braided necklace, the forehead is centred by a urna. He is backed by a rounded stylised halo.Size: L:330mm / W:120mm ; 2.88kgProvenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in early 2000s in France; previously in 1970s European collection.
