Chinese Jiajing Wucai Cranes Porcelain Octagonal Jar. Potted in large jar shape, has an octagonal open mouth with a slightly out-turned lip, and the short neck leads to a convex bulging belly with a restrained octagonal bottom. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in white and Wucai design color, depicted of many cranes on the grass terrace surrounded with fence, dense tree bellow vapors and ruyi clouds. The crane symbolizes longevity as well as wisdom. An embroidery of a crane formed part of the regalia of the top rank of Imperial officials, so can symbolize the wish for promotion to a high official position. A crane is often portrayed with a tortoise longevity or a deer longevity and riches. The Upper rim-base bears a reign mark, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark. Made in The Years of Jiajing Reign Period of The Great Ming Dynasty.
