DESCRIPTION: "The Birdcage". Erte (1892-1990 Russia, France, USA). Serigraph on paper. Signed to lower right. Limited edition number 136/300 to lower left. Raised copyright imprint to lower left side, "1984 C.F.A. Corp". Matted and in wood frame. Born Romain De Tirtoff in St. Petersburg, Russia, Erte grew up around the Russian elite and moved to Paris at the age of eighteen. In 1915 he began creating covers for Harper's Bazaar. Throughout his career Erte was an artist, fashion designer, and created costumes and sets for the theater. Erte's work influenced theater, film, and fashion, as well as an entire art movement. His works have been exhibited around the globe including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
