Description
Native American, Midwestern United States, Michigan, Old Copper Complex Culture, Late Archaic Period, ca. 3000 BCE; Texas, Bell County, Caddo / Mississippian period, ca. 10th to 14th century CE. An intriguing pair of ancient copper items from North America - a crescent knife blade and spindle shaped whorl, which might be a plummet. The blade was purportedly discovered in 1967 or 1968 at a known camp site associated with a cache of stone blades. Copper items in Texas would indicate ties to trade with other cultures, such as the Cahokia from the north, who acquired copper from the Great Lakes region. Most copper came from Michigan, and this whorl tool was also allegedly found in Michigan as well! Size of crescent knife: 4.6" L x 0.6" W (11.7 cm x 1.5 cm); case: 6.25" L x 5.125" W (15.9 cm x 13 cm)
