Central Asia, Tibet, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. This is a stunning piece to display, hand-sewn and vibrantly painted with a scene of the Buddha seated atop a lotus base, atop a canvas panel and silk. Buddha wears a flowing orange and yellow robe with his hands placed in his lap forming the Dhyana mudra of meditation, his legs crossed in the lotus position, and his body is surrounded by a radiating halo with a rainbow of colors and a stylized victory banner above his head with fluttering red drapery. The scene behind Buddha is idyllic, blue sky, clouds, green grass and blooming flowers. The painting is covered by a thin silk veil in yellow with red dye and presented atop a layered brocade silk panel with a cotton backing that can be rolled up for transport. The silk panel, silk ribbons, and veil are attached to a wooden rod with cords at the top for suspension. Size: 37" L x 22.25" W (94 cm x 56.5 cm)

Very good condition. Creasing to painted image and some fading to pigments along the creases, and some areas of staining and discoloration. Fading to silk ribbons and some small staining to silk panels. Cords on the wooden rod are fraying, but one can easily attach newer cords for displaying this piece! Vibrant colors throughout.
