Native American, Midwest to Eastern United States, Eastern Woodland, Archaic to Woodlands Period, ca. 5000 BCE to 1000 CE. A collection of 25 fragmentary pieces of banded slate and hardstone that were on once bannerstones, gorgets, or pendants. The pieces are clearly worked by human hands - drill holes and hafting slots are present throughout. Many have a rounded wing shape that is characteristic of bannerstones of a bowtie or butterfly type. Size of largest: 3" L x 2.5" W (7.6 cm x 6.4 cm)
